The Sister-in-Charge

"No companion is more beautiful than a cheerful and loving heart." — Venerable Mary Ward

Dear Parents, Guardians, well-wishers, and my beloved students,

Welcome to the digital home of St Anthony’s Convent, Jeolikote. Nestled in the serene, quiet hills of the Nainital district, our school is more than just a building of stone and brick—it is a sanctuary of hope, a nurturing ground for dreams, and a vibrant community of young minds.

Having spent many rich, fulfilling years in the field of education, I consider it a profound grace to serve this beautiful branch as the Sister-in-Charge. My role here is to walk alongside our dedicated teachers and vibrant students, guiding them with the wisdom of experience, while ensuring that the foundational vision of our foundress, Venerable Mary Ward, is felt in every classroom, every playground, and every heart.

Our English Medium school here in Jeolikote has a unique and beautiful calling. We serve a diverse community coming from the surrounding village areas and hillsides. We know that every child who walks through our gates does not come from a well-to-do family or a background of privilege. Many of our families face the quiet, daily hardships of rural life.

Yet, when a child steps into St. Anthony’s, their background does not define their future. We see every student as a child of God, brimming with untapped potential. Our vision is to bridge these gaps, offering top-tier English medium education that empowers our children, giving them the confidence to stand tall on any global stage, while remaining deeply rooted in humility and service.

We believe that education should be an invitation to wonder, not a burden of stress. In our junior classes, we have completely embraced the ‘Play-Way method’. Children learn best when they are happy, and our interactive, activity-based curriculum turns learning into a joyful adventure. Through storytelling, hands-on games, art, and creative exploration, we ignite a lifelong love for learning in our youngest Antonians, ensuring their educational foundation is strong, stress-free, and full of laughter.

True education goes far beyond textbooks; it teaches us to be responsible citizens of the world and caretakers of God’s creation. Living in the pristine beauty of the Nainital hills, we feel a deep, spiritual responsibility to protect our environment. Our students are actively engaged in turning this responsibility into action through several grassroots initiatives:

Recycling and Plastic Management: We have started an active drive to collect and recycle plastic, teaching our children to minimize waste and think creatively about repurposing materials.

Environmental Cleanliness: Our students participate in local cleanliness drives, learning that taking pride in our surroundings is the first step toward civic responsibility.

Sustainable Alternatives: From a young age, our children are trained in making eco-friendly paper bags, learning the practical values of sustainability, and understanding how small, everyday actions can protect our fragile ecosystem.

Through these hands-on activities, we are not just teaching environmental science; we are building character, teamwork, and empathy.

St. Anthony’s, Jeolikote, is a quiet school, but within our quietude lies a magnificent strength. We do not shout to be heard; instead, we let the character, excellence, and kindness of our students speaks for us. Our ultimate goal is the ‘preparation of future leaders’—leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually grounded, environmentally conscious, and fiercely compassionate.

We look forward to continuing this sacred partnership with you, dear parents, as we mould our children into the beacons of light our world so desperately needs.

I leave you with a timeless reminder from our spiritual mother, which guides our daily efforts here in Jeolikote:

"Do good, and do it well." And indeed, through the boys and girls we nurture today, the future is incredibly bright.

May God bless our school, our beautiful hills, and every family associated with us.

With affection and prayers,

Sister-in-Charge
